Wheel chairs for Bali
In conjunction with Rotary International's Centennial
Celebration, Rotary Club Bali Nusa Dua has join with its twin club, Rotary
Club Mc Pherson Kansas USA and The Wheel chair Foundation to distribute
280 wheel chairs to crippled and immobile children and adults on the island
of Bali Indonesia.
The first distribution was made on 23 February 2005 at the Nusa Dua Beach
Hotel to commemorate Rotary International's Centennial Day. With Rotarian
Michael "Mike" Mills from Rotary Club Mc Pherson Kansas USA
on hand, five wheel chairs were distributed to Yayasan Penyandang Cacat,
a non profit foundation seving the comunity of Nusa Dua, Bali.
A second, formal ceremony to mark Rotary International's Centennial was
held on 21 April 2005 to coincide with Hari Raya Kartini (considered Indonesia's
Mother's Day). The ceremony was attended by the Assistant Governor of
Bali and prominent community leaders. Ninetyfive wheel chairs were distributed
on this day. The Assistant Governor of Bali thanked Rotary Club Bali Nusa
Dua, Rotary Club Mc Pherson Kansas USA and The Wheelchair Foundation for
the generosity and praised all Rotary Clubs of Bali for their dedicated
service to the community.
Rotary Club Bali Nusa Dua still has 180 wheel chairs to distribute and
is working with the Department of Social Welfare on Bali to identify suitable
candidates for the wheel chairs. Should you be resident in Bali and know
